Why I created MeWe&You

Hi, I’m Helene, founder of MeWe&You.

MeWe&You grew out of my own experience of spending years trying to understand what was happening in my body – and of missing the kind of support that saw the whole of me, rather than one symptom at a time.

But the idea was never only about supporting women in their private lives. I had experienced first-hand how closely health, responsibility and working life are connected – and what can happen when a woman is expected to keep functioning and performing without understanding why her capacity has suddenly changed.

From the beginning, I wanted to create something that could both provide women with personalised support and help employers understand what they can do to create a more sustainable working life.

The app became the first step – because change has to begin with the woman’s own experience.

I am a woman in midlife myself. The first time I heard about perimenopause was after my life had suddenly fallen apart and I experienced an episode of temporary paralysis several years ago.

Stress was identified as the most likely trigger. But I was given no clear answers as to why my body had reacted so strongly – or why I had been living with so many different and seemingly unrelated symptoms for almost 14 years.

I experienced intense mood swings, a constant sense of overwhelm and anxiety that washed over me like a warm wave every evening as I was trying to sleep.

Eventually, my sleep problems became so severe that I barely slept at all. At the same time, my periods were still completely regular. As a result, no one – not even my doctor – understood that I could be in perimenopause.

That was when I discovered functional medicine and a way of looking at health as an interconnected whole. I wanted to understand what might be driving my symptoms and how different parts of my health were affecting one another.

I chose to retrain and, at the same time, began changing the parts of my everyday life that I could influence. By trying different approaches, following up and learning to understand my own body, I began to see what genuinely helped me.

Today, I am a certified Nutrition and Health Coach and Functional Medicine Practitioner. I began to feel better than I had in a very long time. But the road there was both longer and more complicated than I could ever have imagined.

“I know from my own experience that health is deeply individual. We are all different, yet many solutions are still designed as though the same thing should work for everyone. That is why I created MeWe&You.”

I wanted to give women the support I had needed when things were at their most difficult: a simple and accessible way to pause, listen to their body’s signals and discover what works for them.

But I also wanted to help change the conditions surrounding women beyond the app. Because it is not always enough for a woman to understand what she needs if the workplace around her does not.

We are therefore building on the app with a solution that can give employers a clearer understanding of what is happening at group level – without giving them access to any individual woman’s health data.

In this way, we can support women while also helping employers create better conditions for health, work ability and a longer, more sustainable working life.

Sharing my story and turning my own experiences into something that can help others has given those difficult years meaning and a greater purpose.

I am so glad you are here. I hope we can make this journey a little easier – together.

With love and hope,

Helene

Our Mission

Our mission is to combine digital tools, up-to-date knowledge and data to provide women with personalised support and employers with aggregated, privacy-first insights – helping create a more inclusive and sustainable working life.

Our Vision

Our vision is to make perimenopause and menopause easier for women – and working life better for everyone.

Perimenopause and menopause can have a profound impact on a woman’s health, everyday life and working life. But the consequences do not stop with the individual woman.

When knowledge and support are lacking, women may feel forced to step back, turn down new opportunities or leave the workforce, despite still having so much to contribute. This affects gender equality, workplaces and society as a whole.

It is time to do more to change this – for women and for the future of work.

Our sustainability goals

MeWe&You contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals 3, 5 and 8 by advancing women’s health and well-being, gender equality and a more inclusive and sustainable working life.

Through digital innovation, we develop support for perimenopause and menopause that can make a difference to women, workplaces and society as a whole.

MeWe&You began with my story. What we build from here is shaped by the experiences of many women – and by employers who are ready to listen, understand and act.

MeWe&You makes menopause easier for women and working life better for everyone™
